We’ve all been there: you join a “casual” group ride only to discover a brutal hill climb awaiting you 5km in. Now, with Party Onbici’s new Elevation Profile feature, you’ll always know what’s ahead.
See the Terrain Before You Ride
Every route in Party Onbici now displays a detailed elevation profile showing:
- Total elevation gain and loss for the entire ride
- Visual elevation chart showing the terrain profile
- Steepest gradients marked so you know where to pace yourself
- Distance markers to help you plan your effort

Why Elevation Matters
Understanding the elevation profile helps you:
Choose the Right Ride
Filter group rides by difficulty. Looking for a flat coffee cruise? Skip the mountain climbs. Ready to push your limits? Find routes with serious elevation gain.
Pace Yourself Properly
Knowing there’s a 150m climb at the 10km mark means you can conserve energy in the early sections. No more burning out before the big hill.
Prepare the Right Gear
Steep grades might mean adjusting your gearing or bringing extra water. The elevation data helps you plan ahead.
Set Realistic Expectations
A 30km route with 500m of climbing is very different from a flat 30km ride. Elevation data gives you the full picture.
How It Works
We use the Stadia Maps Elevation API to fetch accurate elevation data for every route. The profile is calculated at 50-metre intervals along your route, giving you a detailed picture of the terrain.
Total Ascent
See exactly how much climbing you'll do, in metres.
Total Descent
Know when gravity is on your side.
Available Now
Elevation profiles are automatically generated for all routes - existing and new. Open any party or ride in Party Onbici to see the terrain you’ll be tackling.
The feature is available in both our web app and mobile apps on iOS and Android.
What’s Next
We’re working on:
- Gradient-coloured route lines on the map showing steep sections
- Elevation-based ride difficulty ratings to help you find appropriate rides
- Personal climbing stats tracking your total elevation conquered
